ALP: Chemical and Applied Sciences (Fragrance)

Explore how Bartley Secondary's ALP uses fragrance science and STEM to inspire curiosity and lifelong learning in students from Secondary 1 to 3 and beyond.

Aim of the Programme

Our ALP aims to prepare Bartleyans to become Learners for Life by:

  • Offering Bartleyans additional opportunities to learn through exploration and discovery, thereby enabling invention and innovation.

  • Enthusing Bartleyans to explore the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

  • Cultivating the habit of learning

Approach
Broad-based Opportunities (Secondary 1 and 2)

Secondary 1

  • Acquire fundamental concepts about fragrances.

  • Perform separation techniques to extract essential oils from flowers, spices and fruits

  • Use CAD software to create designs for 3D printing

  • Execute Micro:bits coding to complete assigned tasks

Secondary 2

  • Acquire and apply concepts in formulation of perfumes

  • Deepen understanding and application of CAD design and Micro:bits coding

  • Implement Design-thinking Process,EDIPT (Empathy-Define-Ideate-Prototype-Test) to create a prototype that caters to the theme specified by infusing the concepts learnt

Programmes for Students with Higher Interest and Ability (Secondary 3 and above)

  • Partake in STEM-related competitions and enrichment activities

  • Participate in study-attachments/job shadowing/ learning journeys with Educational and Industrial partners

  • Take up Advanced Elective Module (AEM) in Singapore Polytechnic on Perfumery and Cosmetic Science

*Priority for the programmes will be given to members of the CurioSTÉ Club.
